Three steps

How to connect

Five minutes, once. After that it is a switch.

    Install the app

    Search for WireGuard in your phone’s app store. It is free and there is nothing to sign up for. Make sure it is the one by WireGuard Development Team: there are copycats with similar names.

    Add your profiles

    Open the app, tap the + button, choose Create from QR code and point the camera at the code you were given. There is just the one code.

    Switch it on

    Flip the switch. That is it. To go back to normal, switch it off: your connection returns to exactly how it was.

On a computer you will be given a .conf file instead of a QR code. Open it with Import tunnel from file.

What is normal

  • Some sites will think you are in Germany. Your bank or Netflix may ask for an extra check. Switch it off if a site refuses to work.
  • It may feel slightly slower. Your traffic is taking a longer path on purpose.
  • It does not switch itself on. It only works when you turn it on.
  • Some hotel networks block VPNs. Try mobile data: if it works there, the problem is that wifi.

Two rules

  • Do not share your QR code with anyone, including family. Everyone has their own. Whoever photographs your code can use the VPN as you.
  • If you lose your phone, say so straight away. Your key is cancelled in under a minute and nobody else is affected.
